Brown-het-1178 Ta-570 High Energy Fluxes from a Non-scaling Cosmic String Network
نویسندگان
چکیده
Topological defects, particularly cosmic strings, can provide a mechanism to produce particles with energies of the order 10 eV and higher. Here, we report on order of magnitude calculations of fluxes from a cosmic string network which evolves according to a new scenario according to which the main channel for energy loss is the particle production rather than gravitational radiation. We compare the predicted fluxes for protons (anti-protons) and neutrinos (anti-neutrinos) with observations of extremely high energy cosmic rays.

Friction Domination with Superconducting Strings
We investigate the evolution of a superconducting string network with arbitrary, constant string current in the friction dominated regime. In the absence of an external magnetic field the network always reaches a scaling solution. However, for string current stronger than a critical value, it is different than the usual, horizon–scaling of the non-superconducting string case. In this case the f...

We review recent progress on testing the hypothesis of the existence of cosmic string perturbations in microwave background maps. Using an analytical model for the string network we show that the predicted amplitude and spectrum of MBR fluctuations are consistent with the COBE data for a reasonable value of the single free parameter of the string model (the mass per unit length of the string µ)...
متن کاملEvolution of a Non-Abelian Cosmic String Network
We describe a numerical simulation of the evolution of an S3 cosmic string network which takes fully into account the non-commutative nature of the cosmic string fluxes and the topological obstructions which hinder strings from moving past each other or intercommuting. The influence of initial conditions, string tensions, and other parameters on the network’s evolution is explored. In most regi...

We give an upper estimate for the number of gamma ray bursts from ordinary (non-superconducting) cosmic strings expected to be observed at terrestrial detectors. Assuming that cusp annihilation is the mechanism responsible for the bursts we consider strings arising at a GUT phase transition and compare our estimate with the recent BATSE results. Further we give a lower limit for the effective a...

We calculate the probability distribution of a single component of peculiar velocities due to cosmic strings, smoothed over regions with a radius of several h −1 Mpc. The probability distribution is shown to be Gaussian to good accuracy, in agreement with the distribution of peculiar velocities deduced from the 1.9 Jy IRAS redshift survey. Using the normalization of parameters of the cosmic str...
